Discrimination against Spanish sportswomen

Women in sport in Spain are being subjected to double discrimination, and their situation is especially serious when compared with that of their male counterparts. Reports in the Spanish press[1] recently revealed the existence of contracts containing clauses that allow clubs to sack players without any form of compensation if they become pregnant. Although the government itself has acknowledged that such clauses are unlawful, it has stated that if no complaints are made (sportswomen are scared they will not be able to continue their careers) it cannot do anything.
