Measures for the Adriatic oily fish sector

Question for written answer E-002312-17
to the Commission
Rule 130
Damiano Zoffoli (S&D)

More than 1 000 people on over 150 boats currently work in the oily fish sector in the Adriatic Sea. The industry produces around 80% of Italian sardines and anchovies, but in recent years has lost between 50 and 60% of its value.

In light of the above and the discussions recently opened on the five-year plan for the management of small-scale pelagic fishing in the Adriatic Sea, is the Commission aware of the difficulties faced by oily fish fishermen in the Adriatic Sea?

Will the effects of the recent GFCM measures to regulate small-scale pelagic fishing activities in the Adriatic Sea be taken into account in the plan, before implementing any additional limiting measures in the sector?
