We have recently been informed by the coordinator of the Mediterranean rail corridor that the construction of certain sections in south-east Spain, in particular the Murcia-Almería and Almería-Granada sections, has been delayed considerably.

The problem has been exacerbated by the fact that the construction project for the Almería section has lost the funding previously earmarked until 2020, and is therefore left out of the current financial framework. The Mesa del Ferrocarril de Almería (Almería Railway Board) visited Parliament to complain about the state of Almería’s rail infrastructures and the connections between Almería and Murcia and between Almería and Granada, which is causing serious problems for the future of the area’s agriculture and tourism sectors.
