Directive 2005/36/EC on the recognition of professional qualifications

Question for written answer E-003206-17
to the Commission
Rule 130
Othmar Karas (PPE)

Directive 2005/36/EC on the recognition of professional qualifications is intended to promote the free movement of persons and thus to promote and strengthen the internal market. In some areas of medicine, the directive is no longer up-to-date, which makes the recognition of professional qualifications, and in particular further qualifications, more difficult, since the national authorities adhere strictly to the terminology contained in the annexes to the directive.

Does the Commission intend in the near future to propose a revision of Directive 2005/36/EC on the recognition of professional qualifications?

Does it intend to revise the directive in such a way that the terminology used in the annexes can be adapted more quickly?

Does it take the view that delegated acts could be a suitable instrument for adapting the annexes in Directive 2005/36/EC?
