Question for written answer E-003372-17
to the Commission (Vice-President/High Representative)
Rule 130
Syed Kamall (ECR)
I have been contacted by a number of constituents who are concerned about the treatment of gay men in Chechnya.
My constituents are particularly concerned about the violence committed against the gay community and the opening of concentration camps for gay men. My constituents are also concerned about the alleged violence and crimes committed against men for their real or perceived sexual identity.
Can the Vice-President/High Representative confirm:
- 1.If it is aware of the state of play as regards the treatment of gay men in Chechnya?
- 2.If it has raised its concerns with the Chechen authorities?
- 3.What action it intends to take to address the treatment of gay communities in Chechnya?
