Young adults affected by ADHD

Question for written answer E-003922-17
to the Commission
Rule 130
Nicola Caputo (S&D)

Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is a neurological development disorder which is often linked to other diseases and affects between 3 and 5% of school-aged children and between 1 and 3% of adults, causing an inability to concentrate, impulsive behaviour and hyperactivity and making social integration and adjustment difficult.

In 2010 and 2016, the Association for ADHD Sufferers Europe complained of the, at best patchy, availability of specific treatment for young adults affected by the disorder and highlighted the urgent need to make psychosocial services universally available.

Will the Commission introduce European coordination arrangements to improve the assistance that Member States provide for young adults affected by ADHD?

Will it promote and fund specific studies to increase knowledge of ADHD and related problems, in particular as regards the help given to sufferers in the Member States?
