Following the Grenfell fire tragedy of 14 June 2017, a significant number of survivors stated that they were overcome by smoke.

Toxic smoke is one of the most important causes of death in fires. It also causes cancer, not in the least in the case of firefighters, amongst whom a disproportionally high prevalence of certain types of cancers has been established.

Does the Commission agree that addressing smoke toxicity should be a priority in ensuring fire safety?

Would the Commission consider putting in place requirements to test for, and label, the toxic smoke produced by construction products in the event of a fire?
