Airport delays

Question for written answer E-005174-17
to the Commission
Rule 130
Daniel Dalton (ECR)

In light of the ongoing and unsustainable delays at airports this summer, can the Commission explain how it will ensure that new security requirements are administered in a way which does not cause major delays at airports in the Schengen zone.

In particular, what has the Commission done to ensure that border authorities are making correct use of the flexibility Member States have to apply targeted checks based on risk assessments, when there is a disproportionate impact on the flow of traffic?

As systematic checks have been applied by the majority of Member States without any problem, and the issue seems to be at specific airports, what is the Commission doing to ensure that these airports are aware of the derogation and are able to adapt to the new rules?

Can the Commission confirm that it will be taking action to avoid these problems reoccurring in the future?
