Free movement of information

Question for written answer E-005312-17
to the Commission
Rule 130
Louis Michel (ALDE)

We often talk about a free Europe, with a free movement of information. However, some EU Member States do not have access rights to certain radio and television broadcasters from other countries. This means that some people living in other European countries cannot stay in touch with their home countries when living in another Member State.

Today, almost half of all EU Internet users watch videos, films or series online. However, broadcasters and other operators find it difficult to obtain the necessary rights to offer their services in other EU countries.

What measures have been taken to ensure that every citizen has a right to access such information? When will they be implemented and used?
