Mismanagement of public funds earmarked for the national civilian service

to the Commission
Rule 130
Marco Valli (EFDD) , Isabella Adinolfi (EFDD)
The Naples Public Prosecutor's Office has recently opened an investigation into the mismanagement of public funds in the national civilian service. A system involving ‘extras’ and pre-printed forms to be filled in has apparently been found; the intention was to divert, to an organisation accredited with the Campania region, the monthly contribution that the government allocates to people working in the civilian service. In addition, in several cases, volunteers were allegedly employed for purposes other than those provided for by the calls for projects/volunteers in question. 19 projects, involving some 190 volunteers, are under investigation.
In the light of the above, can the Commission say:
- 1.What amount of EU funding was involved;
- 2.What measures it intends to take to establish a more careful monitoring system, especially in sectors which can contribute to the professional development of young people;
- 3.Whether it intends to alert Olaf so that a more in-depth investigation can be opened?
