Vaccinations

Question for written answer E-006940-17
to the Commission
Rule 130
Nikos Androulakis (S&D)

In reply to my Written Question E-003863/17 on action to promote vaccination, Commissioner Andriukaitis referred to the co-funding of health programmes to share best practices regarding national vaccination policies. He also indicated that the Commission, together with the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control, was drawing up guidelines for the planning and implementation of communication activities relating to immunisation programmes.

There have been 146 outbreaks of measles in Greece over the past few months and 14 000 in Europe as a whole, causing 43 deaths. According to Andreas Konstantinopoulos, President of the Hellenic Paediatric Society, 350 000 children aged between 15 months to four years have not been vaccinated.

In view of this, can the Commission say which Member States are participating in co-funded programme for exchange of best practices regarding vaccination policies?

Has Greece requested the assistance of the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control for the planning and implementation of communication activities relating to immunisation programmes?

What further assistance could the Commission provide in response to growing refusal of parents to vaccinate their children?
