Development of the Western Coastal Zone of Thessaloniki

Question for written answer E-006978-17
to the Commission
Rule 130
Maria Spyraki (PPE)

A management and development plan has been completed and presented specifically for the western coastal zone of Thessaloniki, and includes measures for the Thermaikos Gulf area (Terra-Med project) for the future through the NSRF.

However, the managing body of this project has not been established; as a result, the branch of the central sewer system is still not operational and all urban wastewater is pouring into the bay.

Will the Commission say:

Since the project has been co-funded, why has no specific plan been adopted to contain, decontaminate and restore the bay, and why has no specific management plan been implemented for Thermaikos?

Why has the second branch of the central sewer system not been completed so that all urban wastewater goes through biological purification first?

Why have Dendropotamos, Anthemountas and all the other torrents, streams, and even rivers, which are currently the main feeders of polluted waste into the bay, not been cleaned, sorted and made to run like streams?
