The SAFFRON project (2016-2018) is funded by the European Internal Security Fund. For one of its awareness-raising campaigns — #HeartofDarkness — it broadcast a video[1] (#Spot7 ‘Jihad’) in order to explain the concept of jihad. This video minimises the role of the Muslim Brotherhood organisation in radicalisation and presents it as a pacifist organisation, when in actual fact there is a continuity between the Muslim Brotherhood and the networks which advocate the use of violence, such as al-Qaeda or IS. However, this continuity has not been highlighted in the video.

Since the aim of this video is to educate, and to explain to the general public what jihad is, these inaccuracies are worrying.

Is the Commission aware that this video has been put online by the SAFFRON project and how it presents the Muslim Brotherhood organisation?

Will it contact those responsible for the project with regard to the angle taken in the video and, if necessary, ask them to change it, or even to remove it from the Internet?

Does the monitoring of projects funded by the Commission as part of the fight against radicalisation include supervision of the content put online by those projects?
