Tungsten halogen lamp light bulbs

Question for written answer E-000726-18
to the Commission
Rule 130
Ashley Fox (ECR)

I have been contacted by several constituents in the South West of England who are concerned that the implementation of Regulation (EU) No 1194/2012 could adversely affect theatres across the EU. There are concerns that directional tungsten halogen lamp light bulbs could be banned.

These traditional theatre bulbs have an incredibly long life, provide clear lighting across the whole of the spectrum and are essential for many of the special lighting effects enjoyed by theatre-goers.

I am therefore asking for the Commission to confirm that directional tungsten halogen lamps remain beyond the scope of any future phase-out, and that the special-purpose lamp classification, which safeguards the availability and use of studio lighting, show-effect lighting and theatre lighting, will be retained.
