Harmonisation of police training schemes via CEPOL
14.3.2018
Question for written answer E-001562-18
to the Commission
Rule 130
Beatriz Becerra Basterrechea (ALDE)
The European Union Agency for Law Enforcement Training was set up in 2005 to train high-ranking Member State police officers and facilitate cooperation among national police forces.
Both of those aims are especially important in the current climate, given the common cross-border threats and security challenges facing the Member States. This situation highlights the need to harmonise the skills and abilities of police forces.
Given that regulation (EU) 2015/2219 bestowed CEPOL’s training activities with the European policing dimension they require, and given that the Commission is represented on CEPOL’s management board:
- 1.Is the Commission going to encourage CEPOL’s management board to harmonise national police training schemes?
- 2.How is the Commission going to step up the harmonisation and mutual recognition of police training, in line with the Bologna process and the European Higher Education Area, in CEPOL’s next multiannual planning period and in the annual work programme?
- 3.Is the Commission intending to make the supervision and coordination of national police training schemes part of CEPOL’s mandate with a view to enhancing its European dimension?
