Rate of return of illegal migrants

Question for written answer E-001626-18
to the Commission
Rule 130
Nadine Morano (PPE)

According to Eurostat, the ratio between the number of orders issued for illegal migrants to leave the territory of a country and the number of migrants actually returned varies significantly from Member State to Member State. While in 2016 the overall EU rate of return was 50% of all orders issued, this number was only 17.4% in France but 78.5% in the United Kingdom. France’s return system is the weakest link in its migration policy. The countries that are the most generous in terms of asylum policy, such as the UK and Germany, also have much larger return rates.

What instruments is the Commission making available/planning to make available to Member States to help them increase their illegal migrant return rates?
