Territorial Principles for Structural Assistance Planning

Question for written answer E-001761-18
to the Commission
Rule 130
Bronis Ropė (Verts/ALE)

In 2016, Lithuania and the Commission agreed that structural assistance to Lithuania would be planned in terms of two regions. To this end, Lithuania established two regions: Vilnius and the rest of Lithuania. Relevant statistics have been collected since 2018.

1. Is it really necessary for at least three years of statistics to be collected before the territorial principles for allocating structural assistance in a Member State can be changed?

2. What work remains to be done so that EU structural assistance to Lithuania will no longer be planned in terms of one region from 2021 onwards, as between 2004 and 2020, but in terms of two regions?
