Follow-up to the European Parliament resolution on women refugees and asylum-seekers

Question for written answer E-002250-18
to the Commission
Rule 130
Elena Valenciano (S&D) , Juan Fernando López Aguilar (S&D)

In its resolution of 8 March 2016 on the situation of women refugees and asylum-seekers in the EU[1], Parliament called on the Commission to take a wide range of measures to improve the safety and protection of the women in question. More than two years later, the situation is still highly unsatisfactory, as confirmed by a recent report from the European Union Agency for Fundamental Rights[2].

1. Is the Commission monitoring, in each Member State, how the specific needs of women and girls are met in the asylum application process, as regards reception conditions and, in particular, against the background of reports of gender-based violence?

2. In the context of migration and international protection, does it collect comprehensive statistics, broken down by gender and Member State, at the various stages of the asylum process and regarding the resettlement programme?

3. Does it plan to draw up a comprehensive set of new guidelines on gender that take full account of the social, cultural and political dimensions of the persecution suffered by women?
