Risks involved in burning alternative fuels in the city of Volos

The citizens of Volos, in the Prefecture of Magnesia, Greece, are extremely concerned as regards the burning of alternative fuels by the cement plant operating in the area. Formal scientific organisations cite scientific and epidemiological studies indicating that, in many European countries, the use of alternative fuels such as RDF and SRF has been linked to an increased incidence of neoplasia and various forms of cancer in the respective countries.

As this is a matter of critical importance that affects social peace and tranquillity, the local community must be informed as quickly and as formally as possible of the potential results based on scientific research and epidemiological studies conducted in other European countries.

In view of the above, will the Commission say:
