LGBT asylum-seekers

Question for written answer E-004642-18
to the Council
Rule 130
Marlene Mizzi (S&D)

The process of seeking asylum is difficult for anyone, but individuals from the LGBT communities and those part of gender minorities are particularly vulnerable when attempting to flee persecution in their home countries. This has resonated in some Member States over the past few months.

In the light of the above, would the Council agree that rather than pursuing inappropriate medical tests, psychological assessments, invasive interrogations or sexually explicit evidence, asylum officers should follow the UN Refugee Agency’s guidelines and share best practices between the Member States?
