VP/HR — Situation in the Republic of Moldova

to the Commission (Vice-President/High Representative)
Rule 130
Syed Kamall (ECR)
I have been contacted by a group of constituents who are concerned about the political situation in in the Republic of Moldova.
One constituent tells me that he believes that the main state institutions have been ‘captured’ by the Democratic Party of Moldova. He alleges this has led to international financial crimes such as the theft of USD 1 billion from the banking sector and money laundering by Russians; amendment of the electoral system contrary to the recommendations of the Venice Commission; an amnesty for those under suspicion; annulment of the results of the Chisinau mayoral elections; and attacks against independent judges, political opponents, independent journalists and civil society organisations.
1. Is the VP/HR aware of any of the allegations made by my constituent?
2. What action will the VP/HR take in communicating her concerns to the Moldovan Government?
3. What further action does the VP/HR plan to take with respect to the current situation in Moldova?
