Disposable packaging and recycling

Question for written answer E-004973-18
to the Commission
Rule 130
Monika Beňová (S&D)

The EU is one of the world’s leading players in environmental policy and in combating pollution. Over the last 20 years, many positive legislative steps and reforms have been adopted in the areas of environmental policy and combating pollution. However, there remain many unaddressed issues facing households in the European Union that we will have to resolve as soon as possible. A problem that many European households are facing is the accumulation of packaging to sell detergent capsules and various fabric softeners in shops. It is therefore vital that the Commission clarifies its vision of how packaging will be used in the future by EU citizens.

Is the Commission weighing up the feasibility of returning undamaged packaging for detergent capsules or fabric softeners back to retail chains?

Is the Commission considering the possibility of installing facilities for the ‘on-tap’ distribution of liquid detergents in municipalities and cities in certain regions?

What plan has the Commission come up with in order to fight household waste?
