Various representatives of the European textile industry have voiced their concern at the impact on the industry of the impending end of the application of the agreement establishing the quota system for textile imports from China. Moreover, the conditions laid down in the agreement signed between the USA and China provide for the protection of 35 categories instead of the 10 provided for in the EU‑China agreement, and that the US‑China agreement will be extended to the end of 2008.

How does the Commission assess the consequences of this situation for the European textile industry?

What measures does the Commission intend to take once the EU‑China agreement comes to an end at the end of this year?
