Specific contribution by the European Union with regard to renewable energy

WRITTEN QUESTION P-0512/08
by Véronique De Keyser (PSE)
to the Commission
The European Union has publicly announced an ambitious plan for renewable energy and tackling CO2 emissions.
One wonders, however, how the European Union has set an example in this area.
The European Union (Parliament, the Commission, the Council and administrative bodies) own or rent a large number of buildings in many European cities, in particular Brussels, Luxembourg and Strasbourg. Some new buildings have just been built, while others are under construction or have undergone major renovation work.
Can the Commission state which of these buildings are currently fitted with photovoltaic panels and to what extent, i.e. how many square metres of roofing are fitted with photovoltaic panels in relation to the total area of roofing available?
