WRITTEN QUESTION P-0449/09
by Konrad Szymański (UEN)
to the Commission
In answer to my question of 5 November concerning the actions of the Youth Welfare Office (Jugendamt) in Germany (E‑5951/08), Commissioner Jacques Barrot wrote that the European Commission ‘seeks to promote the uniform application of the regulation [No 2201/2003] in all Member States by encouraging meetings between judges or the central authorities responsible for its application in practice, and through meetings of the European Judicial Network in civil and commercial matters’.
Concerning the results of the measures referred to in that answer:
- —How many meetings of judges and central authorities responsible for implementation of Regulation 2201/2003 in respect of the Youth Welfare Office have taken place so far?
- —What has the Commission done to ensure that the subject of discrimination against parents by the Youth Welfare Office is raised at these meetings?
- —What was the outcome of the consultations between the Commission and the German Ministry of Justice on the subject of the Youth Welfare Office, which the Commissioner referred to?
- —How does the Commission’s legal service view the actions of the Youth Welfare Office, in the light of nearly 200 complaints, which are available from the secretariat of the European Parliament’s Petitions Committee?
