Ban on travel to London by Geert Wilders, MP

WRITTEN QUESTION P-1053/09
by Koenraad Dillen (NI)
to the Council

The British Government has just denied Geert Wilders, a Member of the Netherlands Parliament, access to British territory. Wilders had been invited by several Members of the House of Lords to come to London to show his film Fitna, which is about Islam and presents a critical view of this religion.

The British authorities fear that Wilders presents a threat to public order. This is strange, as it is known that thousands of Islamic extremists are able to go about their business unmolested in the UK itself.

This decision is yet another violation of freedom of assembly and expression in the European Union.

The Netherlands Government in The Hague asserts that, as a European citizen, Geert Wilders has the right to travel to any EU Member State.

How will the Council protest in London about this violation of the European treaties?
