Common Fisheries Policy

Question for written answer P-000359/2011
to the Commission
Rule 117
Trevor Colman (EFD)

There is growing concern in the United Kingdom over the discarding of fish which are caught by UK fishing boats but are ‘over quota’. This means that perfectly edible fish are being thrown back in the water.

More fish are being thrown back into the sea by British fishermen than are being landed by them.

Is there a likelihood in the future that this discarding of perfectly healthy fish will be stopped?
