Joint police operation ‘Mos Maiorum’
10.10.2014
Question for written answer P-007821-14
to the Council
Rule 130
Ska Keller (Verts/ALE)
The Council has decided to set up a joint police operation called ‘Mos Maiorum’[1], to be implemented from 13 to 26 October 2014. The purpose of the operation is to apprehend irregular migrants and to identify and prosecute smugglers. Frontex will be closely involved in the operation.
I ask the Council:
- 1.What mechanisms have been set up to ensure that, in the context of ‘migratory profiling’, the fundamental rights of migrants — including the non-discrimination principle — are not violated, for example through ethnic profiling aimed at detecting and apprehending undocumented migrants or through the automatic detention of apprehended migrants?
- 2.What effective safeguards have been put in place to ensure proper protection of the personal data collected?
- 3.Which Member States will participate in the operation, and what will be the total cost?
