Court case against Spain for breaching EU landfill legislation — state of play

Question for written answer P-010244-14
to the Commission
Rule 130
Iratxe García Pérez (S&D)

Following a thoroughgoing investigation, in July 2014 the Commission took Spain to the Court of Justice for allowing more than 30 illegal landfill sites to remain open. In September 2014 the Commission also apparently asked Spain for information about 60 new landfill sites that may give the Commission cause to broaden the scope of the case it has brought before the Court of Justice.

1. Could the Commission please provide details as to the state of play with regard to the case it has brought before the Court of Justice?

2. Has the Commission recently been contacted by the Spanish authorities about the action that is being taken to ensure compliance with Directive 1999/31/EC?

3. Could the Commission provide a list of the facilities that triggered the court case in the first place, and those that have led to the original investigation being widened, if that is indeed what has happened?
