Late BPS payments to farmers

Question for written answer P-004811-16
to the Commission
Rule 130
Vicky Ford (ECR)

I am concerned to hear that the Commission is considering relaxing the rules to allow Member State paying agencies more time to pay BPS monies to farmers, by inferring that no sanctions would apply for monies not paid by the end of June.

Many farmers in my constituency have already experienced unacceptable delays in payments, with many only having received bridging payments in May, five months after the start of the payment window. Further delays to payments will lead to farmers incurring additional costs, including interest and other charges.

What assurances can be given to farmers that payments will be received promptly?

What compensation will be given to farmers to address the costs associated with the delayed payments?
