to the Commission
Rule 130
Péter Niedermüller (S&D)
A government-initiated referendum will be held in Hungary on 2 October 2016.
The question of the so-called ‘quota referendum’ will be: ‘Do you want to allow the European Union to mandate the resettlement of non-Hungarian citizens to Hungary without the approval of the National Assembly’?
The Commission is asked to answer the following:
- 1.Could this referendum be interpreted as legally binding for the EU institutions?
- 2.Could any result of this referendum affect the obligations of Hungary based on the Treaties or legitimate decisions of the Council, the Commission and Parliament?
