Werner Langen (PPE)
In recent years the Commission has on several occasions brought infringement proceedings against Luxembourg on account of inadequate waste water treatment. In two cases, the Court of Justice ruled against Luxembourg. The main bone of contention is the Moselle. According to reports in the press, Luxembourg is currently building a new effluent treatment plant in order to remedy the inadequate treatment of waste water.
1. How much was Luxembourg fined, and how much has it paid so far?
2. To what use have the proceeds from the fines been put?
3. What steps have been taken to improve water quality in the Moselle in the short term?
