Rule 130
Jean Lambert (Verts/ALE)

Following the exile of Yahya Jammeh, The Gambia’s former authoritarian ruler, and the taking of office of the country’s recently elected President Adama Barrow in February 2017, the forthcoming National Assembly elections on 6 April 2017 offers further potential for building a positive new chapter for The Gambia.

What action is the Commission and the European External Action Service (EEAS) taking to support and assist The Gambia during this period and beyond? With particular reference to the environmental challenges facing the country, such as the protection of forests, biodiversity and other natural resources and the combating of pollution, what steps are the Commission and the EEAS taking to support the establishment of a robust and effective national environmental protection agency, with statutory powers, for The Gambia?
