Water infrastructure

Question for written answer P-006759-17
to the Commission
Rule 130
Emma McClarkin (ECR)

I write on behalf of my constituents who have raised concerns about water infrastructure.

They informed me that, within a rural area of my constituency, water is sourced from a series of shallow wells and boreholes, but that this source has become increasingly unreliable due to increased consumption in recent years.

Their nearest access to mains water is 1.6km away. Gaining access to this source would incur considerable infrastructure costs that, they have been informed, would need to be covered by local residents.

It is my understanding that the European Investment Bank (EIB) has recently made available funds for similar infrastructural projects across member-states, guaranteed by the European Fund for Strategic Investments (EFSI).Can the Commission inform me under which heading investment funding for this kind of infrastructural projects can be obtained?
