Oxfam scandal: reactions by the EU executive
16.2.2018
Question for written answer P-000968-18
to the Commission
Rule 130
Alessandra Mussolini (PPE)
The news that the management of Oxfam has been accused of inappropriate and immoral conduct in its activities to support development in third countries cannot but lead to a political debate to determine whether, and to what extent, the supporters of this organisation should reconsider the funding they grant it.
Since the Commission is one of Oxfam’s key donors, as evidenced by the donation of EUR 53.5 million in 2017 alone, and since compliance with high ethical standards is a prerequisite for the allocation of EU funding to its humanitarian partners, can the Commission say:
- 1)Whether it intends to conduct an independent assessment of the facts described;
- 2)Whether, and to what extent, it will review its own financial contribution to Oxfam?
