‘European Universities’ initiative

Question for written answer P-001402-18
to the Commission
Rule 130
Krystyna Łybacka (S&D) , Petra Kammerevert (S&D)

With regard to the emergence of the ‘European Universities’ initiative that consists of bottom-up networks, can the Commission answer the following questions:

What concrete measures are envisaged by the Commission to ensure that the initiative is not only aimed at excellence, but is also inclusive and maintains a geographical balance across the EU?

Considering the important role the European Union plays in promoting educational cooperation with, and development in, non-EU countries, what role does the Commission foresee in this initiative for longstanding EU partners on educational issues, such as Erasmus+ partner countries or EHEA countries?

How does the Commission perceive the added value of this initiative, given the need to link it with the European Research Area and to foster cooperation among HEIs on, for example, thematic and sectoral matters?
