Haemochromatosis is a genetic condition where too much iron builds up in the body.

The excess iron is stored in various organs and joints in the body, leading to diabetes, liver cancer, heart failure etc.

Ireland has the highest rate of suffers in the world. 1 in 5 Irish people carry the gene for this illness.

What work is the Commission undertaking in relation to this illness?

Does it plan to undertake an awareness campaign on this disorder?

Haemochromatosis is treated by venesection (or phlebotomy). Is the Commission supporting research into alternative treatments?
