Στις 20/6/2011 το ΝΑΤΟ παραδέχτηκε ότι έπληξε και κατοικημένες περιοχές στη Λιβύη, τόσο στην Τρίπολη όσο και σε γειτονικές πόλεις. Εκπρόσωπος του ΝΑΤΟ αναφέρθηκε σε «λάθη», αν και πρόκειται για «πλήγματα ακριβείας». Απέφυγε όμως να αναλάβει την ευθύνη για δύο πλήγματα σε 24 ώρες με θύματα αμάχους. Επίσης στις 19/6/2011 νατοϊκοί πύραυλοι έπληξαν τη συνοικία Αράντα, στην ανατολική Τρίπολη, με αποτέλεσμα να σκοτωθούν επτά άμαχοι, και χτες τα ξημερώματα έπληξαν συγκρότημα κατοικιών, στην πόλη Σορμάν, με αποτέλεσμα να σκοτωθούν 15 άμαχοι, μεταξύ αυτών και τρία παιδιά.

Καταδικάζει το Συμβούλιο τους νατοϊκούς βομβαρδισμούς και τις δολοφονίες αμάχων; Προτίθεται να σταματήσει τη στήριξη στον πόλεμο του ΝΑΤΟ ενάντια στη Λιβύη;

The present answer, which has been drawn up by the Presidency and is not binding on either the Council or its members as such, was not presented orally at Question Time to the Council during the July 2011 part-session of the European Parliament in Strasbourg.

The NATO-led coalition is strictly implementing United Nations Security Council Resolution 1973. The EU deeply deplores any loss of life in Libya. In this regard the EU notes the decision of the International Criminal Court to issue arrest warrants for Colonel Gaddafi, Said Ali-Islam and Abdullah Al-Senussi for alleged crimes against humanity.

The EU is actively supporting a political resolution to the conflict in Libya under the auspices of the United Nations notably through its participation in the meetings of the International Contact Group and the Cairo Group (the African Union, the Arab League, the European Union, the United Nations and the Organization of the Islamic Conference).
