5. Prioritățile UE pentru cea de-a 62-a sesiune a Comisiei ONU pentru statutul femeii (dezbatere)
Înregistrare video a intervenţiilor

Claudia Țapardel (S&D ), in writing . – Gender inequality poses serious threats to achieving a sustainable economy and reaching the goal of a non-discriminatory society. Moreover, the consequences of gender inequality are as serious as they are diverse, affecting girls and women in numerous ways, and especially women from rural areas. Figures show that the work of women from rural areas is often paid less than the work of men for the same output, and they encounter difficulties in getting access to adequate public health services. This situation is unacceptable for the Europe of the 21st century and calls for immediate action, which is why I support the recommendation of the European Parliament to the Council on the EU priorities for the 62nd session of the UN Commission on the Status of Women. We need to focus more on the challenges women from rural areas face, in all Member States, and the key EU priorities to increase the participation of women to media, information and communication technology are vital for the advancement and empowerment of women. My view is that we must make extra, but concrete, efforts to achieve gender equality and I fully support the use of digital technology as an instrument to sustain these efforts.
