pursuant to Rule 133 of the Rules of Procedure

on the agreement between Ukraine and Russia on supply of gas

Gianluca Buonanno

Motion for a European Parliament resolution on the agreement between Ukraine and Russia on supply of gas

The European Parliament,

–  having regard to Rule 133 of its Rules of Procedure,

A.  whereas Ukraine and Russia have reached an agreement on the so-called ‘winter package’, under which, firstly, Kiev will receive the gas it needs to get through the winter and, secondly, transit of gas to Europe will be guaranteed;

B.  whereas under this impending agreement both Ukraine and the EU Member States that normally draw on Russian gas for their own energy requirements will receive supplies in line with their needs;

C.  whereas said gas will be supplied despite the EU sanctions against Moscow, which unlike the EU, has always acted correctly;

1.  Hopes that the EU institutions will be willing to take note of the duplicity of their stance in regard to Moscow and the strategic mistake made in imposing sanctions on Russia, a country whose importance is recollected as soon as winter is upon us, and that they will embark immediately upon a change of course in the EU’s external policy on Russia by lifting sanctions at once.
