Motion for a European Parliament resolution on the creation of joint Chambers of Commerce in third-country parties to trade agreements with the EU

The European Parliament,

–  having regard to Rule 133 of its Rules of Procedure,

A.  whereas Article 207 of the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union (TFEU) establishes the common commercial policy as an exclusive competence of the European Union;

B.  whereas the EU is the world’s leading commercial power and largest exporter of manufactured goods and services;

C.  whereas international trade was one of the first areas in which Member States agreed to pool their sovereignty and whereas in the 2010 Communication on Trade, Growth and World Affairs, international trade was defined as one of the pillars of the new Europe 2020 strategy aimed at making the EU greener and more competitive;

D.  whereas the EU has concluded, or is in the process of negotiating, free trade agreements with countries on different continents;

E.  whereas Chambers of Commerce are the main promoters of the internationalisation of European businesses and facilitate trade relations with third countries;

1.  Calls on the Commission to support and promote the creation of EU Chambers of Commerce in all third-country parties to free trade agreements with the EU.
