In the light of the Deepwater Horizon oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico, and in view of its forthcoming deliberations, can the Council explain the measures which it intends to take to guarantee the safety and security of oil extraction operations and in the area of high-level environmental protection and disaster prevention in the EU?
