 Subject: Future of GMES
 Answer 

On 30 November the Commission adopted a Communication on the European Earth monitoring programme (GMES) and its operations (from 2014 onwards).

Why did the Commission decide to adopt a Communication on the future of the GMES programme and not a proposal for a regulation, as announced in the Commission Work Programme 2010?

Why did the Commission propose to finance the GMES programme outside the Multiannual Financial Framework (MFF)?

When will the Commission submit a legislative proposal on the future funding and governance of the GMES programme, bearing in mind that the current regulation (Regulation (EU) No 911/2010) only covers initial operations and will expire by the end of 2013?
