The reopening of the Ijzeren Rijn line is a priority TEN project. Although a committee of independent experts was finally appointed on 6 July 2006 to draw up an opinion on the budget and likely costs, there is a danger that the project will be seriously delayed, particularly because the competent Dutch authorities are reluctant to participate.
Does the Commission agree that this project ought to be carried out as quickly as possible in the public interest, provided that adequate precautions are taken to limit the noise nuisance which will be suffered by local residents?
Will the Commission take an initiative to help secure the implementation of this project, which is of great economic and ecological importance?
How exactly does the Commission see the relationship between the implementation of this project and the protection of the areas covered by the Wild Birds and Habitats Directives?
