The rise in air pollution and childhood asthma

ORAL QUESTION H-1062/06
for Question Time at the part-session in February 2007
pursuant to Rule 109 of the Rules of Procedure
by Claude Moraes
to the Commission

Is the Commission aware of the growth in air pollution and the correlation with the rise in children's asthma? It has been recently reported that in certain areas of London, air pollution is two and half times the annual mean World Health Organization (WHO) recommended levels. The prevalence of asthma is increasing across the EU and there is some evidence that childhood respiratory problems are linked to living in polluted areas. Considering this rise of asthma and air pollution, what work is the Commission doing in this area?
