Parliamentary questions
19 December 2006
ORAL QUESTION for Question Time at the part-session in February 2007 pursuant to Rule 109 of the Rules of Procedure by Josu Ortuondo Larrea to the Commission

Subject: Reduced-duty third country tuna loin quotas

What are the Commission's arguments for introducing new tuna-loin reduced-duty quotas for third countries, when the Community canning industry is already able to supply itself with zero-duty tuna loins from the ACP and the countries comprising the Andean Pact and Central America (today's GSP Plus)?

Is the Commission aware of the impact that these fresh concessions could have, not only on the Community fishing industry, but also on ACP tuna-loin producers whose economies are based on exporting tuna loins to the EU without paying customs duty, thanks to the preferential Lomé-Cotonou Agreements?
