H-0062/07
ORAL QUESTION for Question Time at the part-session in February 2007 pursuant to Rule 109 of the Rules of Procedure by Proinsias De Rossa to the Commission

 Subject: Compensation for ex-sugar workers
 Answer

Could the Commission indicate whether under the terms of Council Regulation (EC) No 320/2006(1), the Irish authorities can require undertakings (i.e. Greencore) due to receive aid under the temporary restructuring fund to go beyond the statutory minimum requirements imposed by Community law in terms of compensating ex-sugar workers? Could the Commission indicate whether it has received any correspondence from the Irish authorities on this particular point? If so, what is the nature and outcome of that correspondence?

Could the Commission indicate which Member States have so far imposed, or are planning to impose, such requirements on undertakings receiving aid under the temporary restructuring fund?
