On 12 June 2007, the Council adopted a regulation on the reform of the fruit and vegetable sector and decided to grant additional payments of EUR 230 a hectare to strawberry and raspberry producers in the new Member States. Unfortunately, these arrangements do not apply to producers of other soft fruits (such as cherries and currants) or, most importantly, to apple growers, which is of particular significance to Poland, as it accounts for almost one-third of the Union's apple production.

The situation of fruit farmers in Poland has been made more difficult still by the frost in May, which resulted in 70 to 80% losses to this year's harvest.

Does the Commission intend to support apple growers in Poland and, if so, in what way?
