ORAL QUESTION for Question Time at the part-session in December 2008 pursuant to Rule 109 of the Rules of Procedure by Armando França to the Commission
EUROPOL (the European Police Office) has as its primary objective the fight against organised crime, terrorism and all forms of serious crossborder crime. It is therefore of major importance for the security of 500 million European citizens. The effectiveness of its actions depends to a large extent on cooperation among Member States and between Member States and third countries.
To what extent are Member States participating in EUROPOL and ensuring mutual cooperation? What forms of cooperation are in place between EUROPOL and third countries?
Following the agreement reached under the Portuguese presidency on reforming the EUROPOL Convention and starting work on its replacement, what is the present state of play regarding that replacement process?
