WRITTEN QUESTION by Martin Ehrenhauser (NI) to the Commission

 Subject: Continuation of the European Transparency Initiative (ETI)

The European Transparency Initiative (ETI) was launched by Commissioner Siim Kallas in 2005 and covers three main areas:

(a) fuller information about management and use of Community funds;
(b) rules and standards on professional ethics for the European institutions and bodies;
(c) the framework in which lobby groups and civil society organisations operate.

The following questions now arise from this:

1. Who is responsible in the Commission for continuing the European Transparency Initiative?
2. Which areas does the Commission consider to be in need of particularly urgent improvement in terms of transparency?
3. What aims has the Commission set itself for 2010 with regard the ETI?
4. What specific measures are planned for 2010 in the framework of ETI?
5. How many staff worked exclusively on ETI issues in the years 2004‑09?
6. How many staff are working exclusively on ETI issues in 2010 and beyond?
